WHO has a call for all young people...
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus pointed out that while there is still no 199% effective cure for the infection, the only way to control this deadly pandemic is through personal behavior - a few meters away from others on social media, and wearing a mask everywhere.
"In particular, I urge young people to wear masks because their and others' health depends on responsible behavior," said the head of the organization.
For Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, "Some people think that the obligation to wear a mask violates their freedom of choice - but the more people keep them, the more freedom we have to come out."
Yesterday, 239 health experts from 32 countries sent a letter to the WHO asking it to review recommendations for Covid's infection, including airborne transmission of the virus.
According to them, there is convincing evidence that coronavirus is also transmitted through the air, making it even more difficult to curb its spread.
The experts said that the masks should be kept where physical distance can be observed and that the recommended type of masks are those of type N95, which filter even the smallest particles of the virus.
The World Health Organization has long said that coronavirus is spread mainly by sputum coming out of the airways, through coughing or sneezing, and that these drops quickly fall to the ground.
Dr. Soumya Siyaminathan, the WHO's lead scientist, said yesterday that members of the agency were trying to assess new scientific evidence as soon as possible.
