The leaders of Kosovo met ahead of vote on demarcation
The president of Kosovo Hashim Thaci received on Monday morning in his office the Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj.
During this meeting they have discussed on current political situation in Kosovo. In fact Thaci and Haradinaj met only a day before the Parliament is expected to vote the controversial. Agreement on border demarcation with Montenegro. Its ratification is one of the last criteria for Kosovo to get visa liberalisation. Ruling coalition is struggling to get 80 votes in the 120 seated Parliament needed to ratify the deal. PM Haradinaj said earlier that he is convinced the demarcation will be ratified on Tuesday. Also President Thaci has urged MPs to vote the demarcation and not keep Kosovo citizens isolated.
Kosovo Parliament has failed some times to gather necessary votes to ratify the Agreement on border demarcation with Montenegro
The opposition party of Vetevendosje is opposing the deal claiming that Kosovo loses over 8000 hectares of land.
International representatives in Kosovo including Head of the EU Office, Nataliya Apostolova, and US Ambassador Greg Delawie, also some times have urged MPs to ratify the deal as soon as possible in order for the EU to give the green light to lift visas.
Kosovo and Montenegro signed the Agreement on border demarcation on 26 August 2015 and its ratification is one of the last outstanding criteria for Kosovo to get visa liberalisation with the EU. Montenegro Parliament has already ratified the deal.
