The EU reopens its borders with 50 countries outside the union

The French Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs stressed that next week the list of 50 countries outside the EU with which to reopen borders will be placed. "The idea is to have perhaps a first list of 50 countries that have brought the epidemic under control and because of which we do not endanger the health of the French, the Europeans," he added. The EU's external borders and the Schengen area, which has been closed since March 17 to fight the spread of the new coronavirus, are expected to gradually reopen on July 1. Borders within Europe have been open mainly since June 15, ATSH reports. "The list of countries will be based on very objective epidemiological data, such as the incidence level (the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants) and will be reactivated every two weeks," said Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. He did not say whether major destinations such as the United States and Canada would be on the list.
