SPAIN - Authorities At least 13 people dead and 50 injured in a terrorist attack in Barcelona

Barcelona area hit by two terror attacks. At least 13 people have died and more than 50 others have been injured on Thursday in a attack against a crowd of people in Barcelona. But that was not all from the scenes of horror, panic and chaos. Another attack is prevented from police, which today, in the early hours of the morning, have undertaken an operation in the Cambrils beach area, 120 kilometers south of Barcelona. During the operation, police have managed to neutralize the 5 terrorists, who were thought to commit another terrorist attack in this city: A Moroccan and a Spanish national from the North African Spanish enclave of Melilla, in the neaby towns of Ripoll and Alcanar in connection with the attacks. Another suspect believed to be the driver of the van in Barcelona is still on the loose after escaping the scene on foot. Witnesses said the van zigzagged down one of Spanish city's busiest tourist avenues, Las Ramblas, mowing down pedestrians and leaving bodies strewn across the groun. “There were bodies on the ground with people crowding round them. People were crying,” Xavi Perez, who sells sports magazines just 100 metres away from the attack. Spanish authorities say the two incidents and an earlier explosion are connected. Meanwhile, ISIS has assumed responsibility over the attack. This was announced by Amaq news agency, which is close to the terrorist group. If the IS claims are confirmed, it would be the latest attack in Europe over in the past two plus years. A number of those attacks, including in Nice, Berlin, London and Stockholm, used similar simple vehicle attacks that authorities and experts say are nearly impossible to prevent. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said Catalonia was "today hit by jihad terrorism like other cities have been throughout the world." He announced three days of national mourning.
