The mostly devoted to Albanian studies, Robert Elsie, will be buried in the Albanian Alps in fulfilment of his last will. Albanian National Library announced this today. "The corpse of writer, interpreter and Albanian scholar will remain at the premises of the National Library on 17 October to pay the last tribute and homage from 2 pm to 4 pm., while he funeral will take place in Shkoder.” The famous Albanian scholar Robert Elsie, born in Kanada, passed away at the age of 67, in the city of Bonn in Germany, on 2 October2017, due to the rare disease MND. He dedicated over 35 years to Albanian studies, especially to Albanian literature and history. Born in 1950 in Vancouver, Canada, Elsie first got acquainted to Albania and Albanians in the 70s following his visit in Tirana with a group of students and professors from the University of Bonn. Robert Elsie has published about 60 books in English, Albanian and German, of which he was author or editor. Robert Elsie was bestowed Medal of Gratitude (15 May 2013) – by President of Albania Bujar Nishani to honour his contributions as a scholar that internationally promoting the “culture, language, literature and history of Albanians”.
