New Kosovo government expected to be formed on Thursday


The Thursday is a big day! Kosovo Assembly will hold on Thursday its constitutive meeting where MPs are expected to the speaker and his deputies in an effort to end political crisis. The end of political stalemate in Kosovo will make way for the creation of the new institutions, based on the June 11th elections. The next parliamentary session occur, after more than three weeks of disagreements. What is expected to happen? Ramush Haradinaj, candidate for prime minister of the PDK-AAK-Nisma (PAN) coalition said that it is very likely that they will not be ready for constitutive session of Assembly on Thursday. “It is very likely that we will not be ready to start ,” he declared for media. The PAN coalition as winners of 11 June election are expected to propose their candidate for speaker and paving the way for forming of the new Government with Haradinaj as prime minister. “We are consulting all parties to form institutions. We are in a good direction. These consultations are not only about creating majority in Assembly, the reason why we want a broad-based government is that the Government should resist important decisions expected to be taken,” Haradinaj said during the press conference. In order to form majority in Assembly PAN coalition need four votes of the AKR MPs to form majority. The PDK-AAK-Nisma (PAN) coalition, as winner of elections is expected to propose the name of the speaker but they are struggling to form majority in Assembly. Four votes of the AKR MPs will help them get 61 votes needed to elect the speaker and open the way for forming of new Government. AKR of Behgjet Pacolli is expected to officially join the PAN coalition on Thursday. Pacolli’s party the AKR was part of the pre-election coalition with the LDK of former PM Isa Mustafa and newly established entity Alternativa. But after more than two months since Kosovo held early parliamentary election, Pacolli is ready to switch alliances and join the PAN Pacolli most likely will become part of Ramush Haradinaj’s cabinet. Also the deputy chairman of the PDK, Enver Hoxhaj, is convinced that Kosovo Assembly will be constituted on 24 August. Chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Isa Mustafa met on Wednesday Behgjet Pacolli, leader of the Alliance New Kosova (AKR) and confirmed that the pre-election coalition between LDK and AKR is stable. Kosovo held early parliamentary election on 11 June after no confidence vote on Isa Mustafa’s Government. Newly elected MPs convened for the first time on 3 August but failed to elect the speaker and his deputies after five consecutive sessions due to lack of quorum.
