Marches around the world I cant breathe. Change is coming..
"Black lives matter." "Enough is enough" Under these mottos against racism, people have flooded the streets from Los Angeles to London, Madrid, Paris, etc. The wave of protests sparked by the death of George Floyd in Mineapolis has already taken on global proportions.
During a protest in Paris, Bokar Ture, the American economist, the son of Black Panther leader Stokely Carmichael, explained to his daughter that George Floyd had died from skin discoloration. "I've said there are some people who think we're worth a little bit just because we're black, but we know very well that this is not true, is it?" We know we are just as smart, as intelligent, and as beautiful as anyone else. Your life is worth it, your beauty is worth it, your intelligence is worth it, it doesn’t matter at all what others think. OK?".
The views are almost the same from the streets of Brussels, with hundreds of people on the streets raising their voices against racism. Pauline Sobze, a 17-year-old student, says she believes the move could change society and the way people of color are seen. "I think one of the things that this protest can change is the way people of color are seen," he said. "I hope they are more interested in our culture, because the culture of people of color, African culture is everywhere."
In London, Stedroy Cabey, a 30-year-old actor, says he first encountered racism when, at a young age, he arrived in Britain from the Caribbean, and people told him to return from where he had come from. I was a guy who came from the Caribbean to Britain for a better life, to have a few more opportunities, and when he hears you say that, it hit me hard, I thought, "wow." It reminded me that racism is real. " But Floyd's death has already changed the world, says Cabey. "The fact that we are standing together, globally, says it all. It is very significant. It is very sad that he died, but his death prompted change and the world is changing. I have come out today to raise my voice, I have come out on his behalf and on behalf of anyone who has lost their lives due to injustice.
