A project for the lighting of Lezha's castle is in the process. The news is announced by the Minister of Culture Elva Margariti, who says, among other things, that this monument will receive an added value. "Lezha Castle, this rare monument that has survived for centuries will receive added value thanks to the lighting project, which will highlight the cultural, historical, architectural heritage," said Minister Elva Margariti. The castle rises on top of a hill 186 meters high, east of the city. The castle is of Illyrian origin. In 1440 it underwent a reconstruction by the Venetians, while in 1522 after the Ottoman conquest it was also rebuilt by them. Traces of Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman architecture can be seen here. The most interesting objects to visit are the ruins of Ottoman buildings inside the castle, the mosque, the tower on the southeast wall with a Roman arch and the Illyrian tower on the south wall. From it, you can see a very beautiful view of the Lezha plain and the Adriatic Sea. The castle built on the hill has a strategic position, which controls the Drini valley up to St. John's Bay in the Adriatic Sea. It testifies to the traces of an ancient prehistoric civilization that in the IV century BC.
