Coronavirus - Lower mortality compared to the largest pandemics of the century....
The Covid-19 pandemic has negatively affected the global economy more than any of the pandemics of the last 100 years, although the mortality rate per capita is lowest.
The World Bank in the Global Perspective document published these days, estimated that the death rate from Covid was 39 people per 1 million inhabitants globally (according to data as of May 14, 2020). This prevalence is lower than the four most severe pandemics of the last century.
The Spanish flu in the years 1918-19 had an unusual mortality, with about 100 million deaths globally.
Most severe were the Hong Kong flu (1968-69) and the Asian flu (1957-58), with nearly 300 and 400 deaths per million inhabitants
Since 1960, there have been more than 250 biological disasters, killing more than 10 million people, but these disasters have not affected advanced economies.
