Albania's large and unexplored petroleum resources were the issues addressed in Prime Minister Edi Rama on Monday during the 22nd World Petroleum Congress (WPC) in Istanbul. The Premier declared that the country's geographical position makes it part of a large project like the TAP pipeline.
“Due to its geographic position, Albania will be part of one of world’s biggest energy itineraries, such as the Trans Adriatic Pipeline. We are also close to one of the biggest onshore oil fields in Europe, with 220 million barrelsâ€, Rama said.
"I believe that Albania can become a new front for petroleum resources on the view that we have large and unexploited resources." The energy sector is a strategic priority for the government, and we should work together to succeed in this project, declared PM Rama.
Rama had declared that Albania could turn into an important investment destination for big oil companies.
“Our country has unexploited reserves which could turn us into the new front line of petroleum, far from the Middle East heat. Our government’s cooperation with private companies is very important to guarantee a constant growthâ€, Rama said.
The Albanian Prime Minister underlined that the focus of his government is to increase oil supply for Albanian consumers and to keep integrating the Albanian energy market with the Balkan and European ones.
“The main focus is to increase the security of energy supply for Albanian consumers and to continue the progress towards greater integration of the Albanian energy market into our regional western Balkan market and, more broadly, European markets.
